One You Hounslow is supporting Health Information Week 2017, which runs from Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th July. Health Information Week is a multi-sector campaign to promote the good quality health resources that are available to the public. This campaign aims to encourage partnership working across sectors and benefit all staff and the public by raising awareness of the resources that are available to them.
One You Hounslow’s aim is to support the public to lead healthier lifestyles through promoting health and wellbeing and providing the public with services they can easily access in the borough.
One of our missions is help tackle childhood obesity in Hounslow. We run free family Change4Life programmes that engage the whole family. Lots of parents and teenagers often have many questions for the nutritionists all related to food and diet and especially information they have read on the internet such as ‘does drinking green tea help you lose weight?’ The internet is a wonderful resource but not everything found on it is trustworthy, accurate, reliable or up to date.
Our nutritionists aim to encourage the public to lead healthier lifestyles through advising people how to have a healthy balanced diet and get enough exercise.
So where do we get our information to provide to the public?
As an ageing population, latest food trends, diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and stroke impacting on one’s health; the public are becoming more aware of making changes to their lifestyle to prevent the risk of diseases. They can sometimes read misleading information from websites and other unknown sources.
Our information is always knowledge and guidance based and any information provided to the public will be based on relevant UK guidelines e.g. NICE and scientific evidence.
